PLEASE PAY ATTENTION

If you do, you will be reminded every single day that many of the world's children are in crisis. These photos were taken during one of our mission partnerships to Kenya.

I have written about these issues in the past. On the African continent and in many nations around the world, children are being killed, raped, taken into slavery, abandoned, orphaned, and starved. Consider the statistics below. Don't just read them... consider them; pray about them; talk to others; get your church involved; write letters; and most importantly, take personal
responsibility.

150 million children suffer from malnutrition.

Everyday 35,000 children die because they do not have enough to eat.

Every year 11 million children die from lack of food.

HIV/AIDS have orphaned 1.5 million children.

The governemnt of Kenya estimates in the next 10 years one out of every 5 children will be orphaned.

Nearly a half million Nairobians live in slums.

In Nairobi one half the population live in poverty, many in mud huts that cost $10.00 per month.

More than one billion people worldwide do not have access to clean water.

Water-related diseases are the leading cause of death in the world, taking the lives of 10,000 children a day.

Every 15 seconds a child dies from a preventable, water-related disease.

40 billion hours are lost annually to hauling water, a chore primarily undertaken by women and girls.

There are 218 million working children aged between five and 17.

126 million are estimated to work in the worst forms of child labour — one in every 12 of the world’s five to 17 years olds.

74 million children under 15 are in hazardous work and should be “immediately withdrawn from this work.”

8.4 million children are in slavery, trafficking, debt bondage and other forms of forced labour, forced recruitment for armed conflict, prostitution, pornography and other illicit activities.
