Diane, thanks for the comment. Verse 46 indicates that if we do not help the hungry, thirsty, naked, and sick then we will go away into "eternal punishment." Obviously, the distinguishing characteristic is not works but righteousness that comes only from Christ. Perhaps a follow-up question would be, "Can we claim to be be a follower of Christ if we do not minister to and take care of the poor?"

I've never thought of this before..what an incredibly thought provoking question..
All too often people find it easier to ignore problems than to face it head on and the homeless is definitely no exception.
